Moises Almao
Moises Almao is an aspiring clinical neuropsychologist who began his dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology (BA) and behavioral neuroscience (BS) in the fall of 2025 at the Honors College of Florida International University. As the first-place scholarship winner from SAS West, he plans to save the scholarship funds as a backup stipend for future research conferences and presentations he hopes to attend.
He graduated from SAS in the spring of 2025 and has since taken part in numerous meaningful academic and professional experiences. Through his work as a researcher and community advocate at Miami Dade College, he earned multiple national Psi Beta awards from the National Psychology Honor Society. Before beginning his fall semester, he received the news that he had been selected as an HSF (Hispanic Scholarship Fund) Scholar through a highly competitive application process—an honor that now grants him access to career opportunities and volunteer resources.
Moises also presented his concept-proof project, “Giving Confidence: Tutoring English to Ukrainian Students and Beyond,” at the McNair Fellowship Conference in October, where his presentation was well received and opened doors for further development of the project. Additionally, he completed a six-week program called “Sprouting,” during which he presented a draft of his literature review, “Cognitive Deterioration in Older Adults Caused by Social Isolation and Loneliness.”
He is currently a member of the Honors College Leadership Council as part of the Freshman Committee, where he helps organize events, deliver class presentations, support recruitment efforts, and hold office hours to advise students on volunteering hours and pathway credits. Beyond his studies and extracurricular involvement at FIU, Moises also volunteers for the SAS/AAA Alumni Association as a member of the Executive Board. His role in the alumni association continues to strengthen his growth as a student and future professional, allowing him to share his experiences, contribute ideas, and represent SAS with pride.
